Dermatology.

At Georgia Skin Specialists, our Dermatologists spend extra time in their skin exam appointments and incorporate technological resources to map and measure the body from head to toe in detail, providing arguably one of the most comprehensive full body examinations possible. We aim to educate our patients, providing educational materials and empowering them to examine their own skin for early signs of change.

Along with regular evaluation by a Dermatologist and self-evaluation, the prevention of skin cancer is primarily based on sun protection and sun avoidance. This is because all forms of skin cancer have been associated with cumulative exposure to ultraviolet light. Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinomas are the less serious types of skin cancer and make up 95% of all cases. These rarely metastasize (to spread to other parts of the body) and are not usually life-threatening, but they can create a degree of local tissue destruction if left on the body untreated. Malignant Melanoma is the most serious skin cancer and causes 75% of all skin cancer deaths. Although Melanoma has many potential causes, the two most important factors are sun exposure and genetics. Early detection of Melanoma is key to a good recovery, as it does have the possibility of metastisis and ultimately death if left untreated . Statistics show that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime and therefore, it is crucial that you educate yourself and regularly seek the care of a Dermatologist.
